One Algarve, three personalities. Pick West for wildness, Central for the beach-tourism heartland, East for Ria Formosa and traditional Algarve culture.
West Algarve (Sagres → Lagos)
Character: Wild Atlantic — surf coast + dramatic cliffs + nature reserve
Best for: surf, hiking (Rota Vicentina), wildness. Less developed than Central. Cabo de São Vicente is mainland Europe's southwestern tip.

Central Algarve (Portimão → Albufeira)
Character: Tourism heartland — beaches + Benagil + nightlife
Hosts the iconic Benagil cave + most boat-tour operators. Highest tourist density — book early Jul-Aug.

East Algarve (Faro → Vila Real de Santo António)
Character: Ria Formosa lagoon + barrier islands + traditional Algarve
Best for: birdwatching, boat trips through Ria Formosa, less-touristy beaches, cultural depth. Often missed by first-time visitors.
